DAVIS COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A person of interest is being questioned after a UTA bus and a semi were struck by gunfire on U. S. 89 in Fruit Heights Monday morning.
The incidents occurred in the area of Nicholls Road at approximately 5:15 a.m., according to Davis County Sheriff’s Office officials. Initial reports indicate the shots came from the east side of US-89.
Officials said the UTA bus was hit multiple times, and though there were 12 passengers and a driver on board at the time, no one was injured.
A semi was also struck at around the same time, but the driver was not injured and did not realize shots had been fired until later.
Davis County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Ty Berger told Gephardt Daily a person of interest was taken into custody on unrelated charges Monday afternoon, and is being questioned about the shooting.
Berger said the man was booked into Davis County Jail on unrelated charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct. The man, who has not been identified, is the resident of a basement apartment where officials served a search warrant in connection with the shooting. Two other locations were also searched.
The man has not yet admitted to firing the shots that hit the bus and the semi, Berger said.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
