SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 5, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Science Technology and Research initiative, best known as USTAR, has awarded 26 early-stage companies grants in the second round of its Technology Acceleration Program.
Awardees represent such technical areas as energy, clean tech, life sciences, automation and robotics, and big data. USTAR anticipates awarding a total of $4.5 million in fiscal year 2017.
“USTAR received more than 155 applications,” said Ivy Estabrooke, executive director of USTAR, in a prepared statement. “Applications for this round of TAP were very competitive, and we are pleased with the quality of proposals we received.”
As a technology economic-development engine for Utah, USTAR’s goal is to accelerate the growth of the technology economy, from invention through product development.
