SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Department of Environmental Quality is offering homeowners grants to convert wood-burning stoves and
fireplaces to cleaner burning natural gas or electric.

A DEQ statement released Tuesday says online registration begins on Sept. 3 — which is Tuesday of next week — at stoves.utah.gov.

“The 2019 Utah Legislature provided $9 million in funding to DEQ’s Division of Air Quality (DAQ) to continue the popular wood-stove and fireplace conversion program as a way to help improve Utah’s air,” the DEQ statement says.

“Homeowners can receive up to $4,000 to pay for the conversion, depending on their income level.

“The state program will launch in September for portions of Salt Lake and Davis counties. The program will be extended to other areas within the Wasatch Front in 2020. Program information and registration are available at stoves.utah.gov, under the state of Utah HB357 tab.”
