STUTTGART, Germany, Oct. 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — University of Utah gymnast MyKayla Skinner has been designated as alternate for the 2019 Women’s World Championships team, it was announced Thursday by the USA Gymnastics Selection Committee.

U.S. Women’s National High-performance Team Coordinator Tom Forster in a Thursday news release announced the five women who will compete for the United States at the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, beginning Friday.

Forster designated Skinner as the alternate for the championships, the news release said.

“This is never an easy decision to make, and this time it is especially difficult because every gymnast on the team can contribute on multiple events,” said Forster. “MyKayla is doing an incredible job with her training and is an important member of this team.”

Skinner posted on Twitter: “I just wanted to say thank you to everyone! The past five months have been one heck of a ride but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Still can’t believe I made the World’s team and get to be a part of something so special! Can’t wait to cheer on my girls! They will be amazing.”

The women’s line-up for the qualification round on Oct. 5 will be determined prior to the deadline for submission. The five women who will be competing are: Simone Biles of Spring, Texas; Jade Carey of Phoenix, Ariz.; Kara Eaker of Grain Valley, Mo.; Sunisa Lee of St. Paul, Minn.; and Grace McCallum of Isanti, Minn.

The World Championships team was selected based on performances at the 2019 American Classic, GK U.S. Classic, U.S. Championships, international competitions, and the World Team Selection Camp. A total of 13 gymnasts were a part of the selection camp in Sarasota, Fla.

The 2019 World Championships go Oct. 4-Oct. 14.
