SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol wants the public to be aware of a telephone scam that is being generated from one of the UHP phone numbers, 435-655-3445.

In a news release on Friday, UHP said the State Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime unit is investigating the scam in an effort to find out where the calls are actually coming from and who is behind the scam.

In a typical call, a man with an accent identifies himself as an employee of the Utah Highway Patrol and says you are under investigation by the Internal Revenue Service. He says if you do not provide information and/or send money, someone from UHP will come and arrest you.

UHP wants everyone to know that they do not make phone calls asking for your personal or financial information, and you should never give that information over the phone to anyone you don’t know.

Anyone who has more information to report about this scam, is asked to call the Utah Highway Patrol dispatch center at (801) 887-3800.
