SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah’s Hogle Zoo has announced a new addition to its animal family — Clementine the zebra.
A news release from the zoo said Clementine was born Tuesday and has been bonding with mom, Zoe, ever since.
“Clementine joins baby Zibby, the zebra that debuted in June and Georgetta the baby giraffe who joined the Savanna last month,” the news release said.
Clementine, named by a donor, was 85 pounds when she was born and is the third Hartmann’s mountain zebra ever born at Utah’s Hogle Zoo. The Hartmann’s mountain zebra is a subspecies of the mountain zebra found in far southwestern Angola and western Namibia.
Zoe also gave birth to another foal, Poppy, last year.
“Ziggy, father to all three babies is doing well and watches with mild curiosity from afar,” the news release said.
“Clementine has no fear,” said Melissa Farr, lead keeper at African Savanna. “The other foals stayed pretty close to the barn on their first day on Savanna. But Clementine ran all the way to the west end, right near the lions. She’s so brave and loves to explore.”
