WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, June 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A traffic accident in West Valley City heavily damaged a massive utility pole and left power lines stretched across neighbors’ yards near 4225 West 4100 South early Sunday morning.

Sgt. Jake Hill of West Valley City Police Department told Gephardt Daily the crash happened about 2:16 a.m. when the driver of an eastbound car hit a parked truck before taking out mailboxes and slamming into the base of the power pole.

Police say the occupants of the car — identified as a man and woman in their 20s — received minor injuries in the crash.

Investigators say the couple may have been arguing at the time of the accident.

Police are also trying to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Traffic was closed to eastbound traffic on 4100 South until power lines and the heavily damaged pole could be repaired.
