EDEN, Weber County, May 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 19-year-old man died Saturday evening after the side-by-side he was driving rolled over him in Eden, officials said.

The man was driving the UTV with his 18-year-old brother as a passenger at Sunridge, a private community, just before 8:55 p.m., Weber County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chad Allen told Gephardt Daily.

The driver took a turn too fast and was ejected, then the UTV rolled over him, Allen said.

The man had internal injuries, but he and his brother, who was not injured, made it back to their campground at Sunridge. They then set out for an area hospital in a vehicle, Allen said.

During the drive to the hospital, the man started to lose consciousness. A medical helicopter was then dispatched to Sunridge, where there is a landing pad.

Medical personnel worked on the man for about 50 minutes, Allen said, but he passed away before he could be transported.

It’s not yet known if the two were wearing seatbelts or helmets, but Allen said because the driver was ejected, it is likely he was not wearing a seatbelt. He added that alcohol is not thought to be a contributing factor to the crash.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family members.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
