SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 16, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City police investigators say a local man escaped grave injury Friday night when a bullet fired at his SUV came within inches of striking him in the back of the head.
Investigators told Gephardt Daily the shooting took place after a domestic argument between the man, his girlfriend, and her sister, at a home at 424 N. 1000 West.
Neighbors told police the man was driving away when the sister emerged from the house and squeezed off at least one round at the moving vehicle.
Police arrived moments later, just as dispatchers received a call from a man saying the rear window of his SUV had been shot out.
Officers met him at a nearby address where they were startled by what they found; a rear passenger window completely shattered and a bullet hole in a center window frame. Police say had the bullet passed an inch in either direction it would have likely struck the driver in the side or the back of the head.
Police returned to the site of the shooting where one woman was taken into custody.
The names of both the victim and the alleged shooter have yet to be released.
The police investigation is ongoing.
