TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, April 24, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 50-year-old woman is in extremely critical condition after being hit by a garbage truck on Redwood Road at approximately 4600 South Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at 4610 S. Redwood Road just before 7:20 a.m., according to Unified Police Department Sgt. Melody Gray.
Gray said it appears the woman was crossing in a crosswalk when she was struck, though it’s not clear at this time which direction she was walking.
The driver of the garbage truck was traveling east and making a turn to go north onto Redwood Road and told police he did not see the woman.
The woman was taken to a nearby trauma unit and is undergoing surgery, Gray said.
The driver stopped and is cooperating with authorities.
Gray said northbound lanes of Redwood Road are closed in the area of 4700 South and it’s likely that closure will be in effect until at least 11 a.m. Southbound lanes are not affected.
Both UPD and Utah Highway Patrol are on scene, as well as the Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART), which is investigating the accident.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
