WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Nov. 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman called police Saturday night to report that someone shot at her while she was driving, and within about an hour, police had three suspects in custody.

Two adults, Melquiavez Ramirez, 24, and Sergio Rodriguez, 20, were booked into Salt Lake County Jail on charges of attempted murder and failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, police said. A juvenile, whose name is not being released, was also taken into custody.

West Valley City Police Lt. Steve Burke said the call came in at 8:57 p.m., with the woman telling dispatchers, “Someone just shot at me.”

When police arrived at the scene, they found a bullet hole in the car door, indicating that someone had fired at least one round into the vehicle.

A short while later, Burke said, a car matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle pulled down a dead-end street where a police officer happened to notice that it matched the description of the vehicle in the incident. The officer verified that the license plate was also a match.

Burke said three males were taken into custody near Redwood Road and Research Way, and a rifle was recovered from their vehicle. A ballistics test will be conducted to determine if it’s the same weapon that shot the woman’s car.

It was still too early to say what sparked the incident, Burke said, but detectives were planning to interview the suspects and the victim to find out if it was a case of road rage or something else.
