WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Oct. 20, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — One man was killed when he lost control of his vehicle and rolled near 4800 West on State Route 201 in West Valley City early Thursday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol has identified the man as Vernon R Wade, 72, of Salt Lake City.

UHP officials said Wade was headed east at about 4 a.m. when he hit a barrier and rolled at mile post 12. His vehicle ended up upside down in the middle of the eastbound lanes.

Wade was not wearing a seatbelt, officials said, and he received severe head trauma. The cause of the crash is not known, but “there is the possibility this originated because of a medical issue,” the UHP news release stated. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.

Eastbound lanes of SR-201 were closed until approximately 8 a.m.
