Sept. 5 (UPI) — A grocery store in Houston sold a $1 million Powerball ticket over the weekend, giving a big financial boost to someone who may have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, the Texas Lottery said.
The Texas Lottery said the winner bought the ticket — which matched five out of five numbers — at a Kroger grocery store in an area of southwest Houston that saw flooding from last week’s storm.
The winning ticket didn’t match the correct Powerball, so it wasn’t eligible for the $68 million jackpot.
It’s not clear if the winning ticket was purchased by someone directly affected by Harvey, but residents in the area could certainly use the help.
President Donald Trump has asked for a $7.9 billion down payment to help aid the inundated areas, while Texas Gov. Greg Abbott notes that the cost of the storm could reach $180 billion.
