SANAA, Yemen, Sept. 24 (UPI) — At least 25 were killed Thursday when suicide bombers struck a crowded mosque in the Yemeni capital during Eid prayers.
Officials said the death toll is likely to rise at the al-Balili mosque because of the large number of worshippers gathered for prayers for the Eid al-Adha holiday, the most important holiday on the Islamic calendar.
No one has claimed responsibility, but a recent string of bombings by the Islamic State militant group has targeted Shiites.
The attack is the sixth in three months at a mosque and comes just days after Yemen’s President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi returned from exile in Saudi Arabia.
