AYVACIK, Turkey, Jan. 30 (UPI) — Turkish Coast Guard officials say 39 are dead — including 5 children — after a migrant boat sunk near Ayvacik, Turkey.

Rescuers were able to save 62 refugees. Hurriyet Daily News reported one Turkish citizen was detained due to his alleged role in organizing the trip. Among those killed were refugees from Afghanistan, Myanmar and Syria.

The boat was bound for the Greek island of Lesbos, near Turkey’s Aegean coast.

Earlier reports from Anadolu Agency said rescuers were still searching for a mother and her 3-month-old baby.
