May 28 (UPI) — Bonnie Kalanick, the 71-year-old mother of Uber founder Travis Kalanick, died in a California boating mishap this weekend.

The Los Angeles Times said Kalanick’s father Donald was also injured and remains hospitalized after the couple’s boat hit a rock and sank.

The Fresno County Sheriff — Coroner’s Office said in a Facebook post the incident occurred at Pine Flat Lake on Friday. An autopsy to determine exactly how Bonnie Kalanick died is scheduled for Sunday and an investigation is ongoing.

“Last night, Travis and his family suffered an unspeakable tragedy. His mother passed away in a devastating boating accident near Fresno and his father is in serious condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with Travis and his family in this heartbreaking time,” a representative from the Uber rid-sharing company said in a statement released through the sheriff’s office on Saturday.
