WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 (UPI) — The U.S. Department of Defense said Friday it has discovered a previously undisclosed email chain from Hillary Clinton‘s private server, which were sent before she became Secretary of State.

The newly-discovered emails are between Clinton and retired Army Gen. David Petraeus concerning personal matters, National Public Radio reported Friday.

NPR’s report says the emails begin before Clinton became Secretary of State and they end a short time after she assumed that office.

The new emails are the latest developments in the scandal, which centers around the question of whether the State Department mishandled classified information. Previous emails from Clinton’s private server have already been turned over to officials.

The State Department said the new emails might be released to the public.

Clinton, the Democratic frontrunner to replace President Barack Obama, had previously said she has turned over all work-related correspondence that was stored on her private server. The correspondence amounted to 55,000 pages.

Officials said the new emails do not appear to contain classified information, CNN reported.
