Update: D.C. Police Say Census Bureau Gunman Incident Is Over
SUITLAND, MARYLAND – April 9, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A guard at U.S. Census Bureau Headquaretrs in Suitland, Maryland is in critical condition after being shot in the chest.
According to NBCNews4, the shooting is apparently connected to a police-involved shooting in Northeast D.C., wherein a suspect was shot and two police officers injured, sources confirmed.
The D.C. police officers have non-life-threatening injuries.
Sources have stated that the Census Bureau incident is now over. The only official statement from the bureau was a tweet stating that there had been a “incident” at the campus.
“There has been an incident at the Suitland Federal Center and there is an ongoing investigation,” the tweet read. “We are committed to the safety of all staff who work at the Census Bureau and are currently making sure that everyone is safe and secure. We will provide more details as they become available”
At some point in the incident, the gunman fled from a guard — and then shot the guard in the chest, according to reports from the scene. The FBI is investigating the incident. The facility, which opened in 2006, houses about 5,000 permanent employees.
