Reports: N.Y. State Senate Leader Dean Skelos Under Federal Investigation for Corruption
According to The New York Times federal prosecutors are presenting evidence to a grand jury. The investigation is looking into the business dealings of Adam Skelos and whether his father, the state majority leader, exerted any power to aid him.
Neither Dean nor Adam Skelos has been accused of wrongdoing.
Investigators are targeting the Long Island Republican over his relationship with an Arizona contracting company that hired Adam Skelos. The company, AbTech Industries, was awarded a lucrative storm-water treatment contract despite not having submitted the lowest bid.
On their website, AbTech Industries claims the storm water treatment contract was awarded in October 2013.
Investigators are also looking into a $20,000 payment to Adam Skelos from a title insurance company he never worked for.
Adam Skelos, 32, said he was surprised to learn of the federal inquiry.
“I had no idea that this was even an issue,” he said. “I got to tell you, this is really unexpected.”
Skelos, 67, represents Nassau County on Long Island. He’s served in the state Senate since 1985.
