SPARTANBURG, S.C., Nov. 3 (UPI) — A woman who’s been missing for two months was found alive Thursday kept captive in a storage container, authorities said.

Kala Victoria Brown disappeared in August, prompting a community-wide search and endless speculation about what might have happened to her.

Thursday, police who were serving a warrant at the home of a suspect heard sounds of Brown knocking inside the 30×15 storage container in Spartanburg. Officials said police had been looking for Brown’s boyfriend, who disappeared with her.

The woman reportedly told officers she’d been held there against her will for more than two months.

Brown, 30, was found on property owned by Todd Kohlhepp, a convicted sex offender in Arizona, authorities said. The woman was alive and taken to the hospital for evaluation. Police said she’d been restrained inside the small container.

“It was pretty emotional, to say the least,” Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Thursday. “When she was found, she was chained like a dog — she had a chain around her neck. It’s only by God’s grace we found that little girl alive.”

The boyfriend, Charles Carver, has still yet to be found, however.

Kohlhepp, 45, was arrested when the officers found Brown in captivity. Officials said he will likely be charged with kidnapping.

Given his sex offender status and the disappearances of Brown and Carver, investigators said it might be a fair assumption that there could be more unknown victims.

“We’re trying to make sure we don’t have a serial killer on our hands. It very possibly could be what we have,” Wright said.

Heavy.com reported Thursday that Brown may have worked for Kohlhepp and that the suspect even made a Facebook post about the couple’s disappearance in September.
