OAKBROOK, Ill., Aug. 4 (UPI) — A Cecil the Lion Beanie Baby is now being sold in memory of the beloved cat whose July 2 slaying in Zimbabwe made headlines around the world and put a spotlight on illegal hunting practices.
Ty Inc. has pledged 100 percent of profits from the original sale of the stuffed toys will go to the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit of the University of Oxford in England.
“Hopefully, this special Beanie Baby will raise awareness for animal conservation and give comfort to all saddened by the loss of Cecil,” Ty Warner, founder and chairman of Ty Inc, said in a statement Monday.
