DENVER, Colo., Nov. 27, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) ─ A former thief, with the help of the Denver Police Department, has put together two videos to show how easy it is to become a victim of a crime.

As explained in a post on the Denver Police Department Facebook, the videos titled”Tips From a Thief” are part of a public safety campaign to educate people. David (last name withheld), a known former thief, sits down with officers to share tips on how people can protect themselves.

The first video, “Tips From a Thief, Part 1,” allows the public to see inside David’s thoughts as he prepares to steal from cars in a parking lot.

“The holidays are coming up so I am going to be parked out here and acting like I am talking on the phone,” David said. “I am just here, sitting here, watching, looking at people that will come back and leave their stuff in their car and go back to the store.”

David also warns others about hiding personal belongings in their car while they shop.

“People think they can stuff something under their seat, but they don’t know I am watching them and their body movement. I can see what they are doing,” David said.

David said he has broken into more than 50,000 cars and been in and out of prison over the last 22 years.

“I’ve stolen purses, I’ve stolen guns, I’ve stolen computers, I’ve stolen Christmas bags, I’ve stolen a lot of things. I didn’t care who I was hurting,” David said.

“While I was locked up, I was thinking I needed to find a different way of living and the only way I could do something different was by giving back to the community, and that is why I am here today.”
