Salt Lake to Host Community Dialogue on Police use of Force
Salt Lake City will host its final community dialogue of a three-part series on use of force issues at Sorenson Unity Center, 1383 S. 900 West, tonight March 18 from 6-8 p.m.
Participants will hear a short, 15-minute presentation from the ACLU of Utah’s legal director, John Mejia, entitled “Know Your Rights When Encountering Law Enforcement” before participating in facilitated small-group conversations.
“We invite residents of Salt Lake City to join us for this robust discussion on individual rights,” said Mayor Ralph Becker. “The more we hear from constituents, the better able we will be to serve the public interest and enhance government effectiveness.”
Prior to the dialogues, participants are encouraged to review information on the subject. Suggested readings include:

Residents are also encouraged to continue posting their thoughts, questions and concerns regarding police use of force on Salt Lake City’s Open City Hall, an online forum where residents can share their opinions on specified topics with City officials.
