MURRAY, Utah, Nov. 24, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The body of Utah Patrol Trooper Eric Ellsworth was transported with full honor guard on Friday, traveling from Intermountain Medical Center in Murray to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Salt Lake City, then on to Lindquist Mortuary, in Ogden.
Utah Highway Patrol officials on Friday afternoon tweeted the route for those who wanted to honor Ellsworth as he passed, transported in a flag-draped coffin and accompanied by officers in patrol cars and on motorcycles.
Ellsworth, 36 and a resident of Brigham City, died four days after a Nov. 18 accident that left him hospitalized in very critical condition.
Assigned to Box Elder County and Northern Utah, Ellsworth was in rural Garland, at the site of a low-hanging power line. He was trying to alert the driver of a semi to the danger ahead when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old girl, who didn’t see him.
Ellsworth’s family and UHP officials have met with the teen, expressing their hope that she will be able to heal from her guilt and sorrow.
Ellsworth spent seven years as a UHP Trooper, following in the footsteps of his father, who accompanied his son’s body on Friday. Eric Ellsworth leaves behind a wife and three young sons.
