WASHINGTON, March 3 (UPI) — The Department of Justice granted immunity to a former State Department staffer who helped set up Hillary Clinton’s private email server when she was secretary of state.
The Washington Post reported FBI investigators for months have been asking for Bryan Pagliano’s cooperation as they examine thousands of Clinton’s emails and investigate the possible mishandling of classified information. Pagliano worked on Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign before setting up the server in her Chappaqua, N.Y., home in 2009.
As the investigation comes to a close, the FBI will likely want to interview Clinton and her senior aides about the server, how it was set up and how classified information was handled. There is no indication a grand jury has been convened in the investigation.
In September, Pagliano invoked his Fifth Amendment right and declined to speak to congressional investigators in the case.
Brian Fallon, a Clinton campaign spokesman, said Clinton is “pleased” that Pagliano was cooperating with officials.
In addition to the FBI investigation, the State Department’s inspector general and Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the House Select Committee on Benghazi are continuing inquiries into the emails.
The ongoing probe comes as Clinton moves forward in her bid to become the Democratic presidential nominee.
