Military Jet Crashes On Runway In Arizona, Killing Marine On Ground

YUMA, Ariz., March 11 (UPI) — A single-engine trainer aircraft crashed on the runway at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Ariz., Wednesday, striking and killing a Marine in a government vehicle.

The T-59 Hawk crashed around 11:45 a.m. The Marine, whose name wasn’t reported, was pronounced dead at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

The pilot and passenger of the jet were uninjured in the crash.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the Marine we lost in this tragic accident,” MCAS Yuma Commanding Officer, Colonel Ricardo Martinez, said. “We, at MCAS Yuma, stand ready to provide support to his family.”
