TOOELE, UTAH (Gephardt Daily) — One person suffered serious injuries and two others, including a 5-year-old, were also hurt when a Volkswagen Passat and Ford pickup truck crashed head-on in Tooele Saturday afternoon.

It happened around 4 p.m. on SR-112 (1000 North) near 600 West.

While it is still early in the investigation, Tooele Police say the truck was heading east  and the car was heading west when one of the drivers drifted over the center line and slammed into the other.

Police tell Gephardt Daily that officers arrived on scene to find the 20-year-old driver of the pickup truck was already out of his vehicle, and witnesses had already helped a 5-year-old child get out of the car.  Both suffered only minor injuries and were taken to hospitals as a precaution.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as a 33-year-old man, had to be cut out of the wreckage and was in much worse condition.  Police say he was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Tooele PD says the driver of the Volkswagen was found wearing a seatbelt and given how minor their injuries were, it is likely the child in the Passat and driver of the Ford were wearing their seatbelts as well.

Gephardt Daily will continue to follow the investigation and update this story as new information becomes available.
