Wrong-way driver sideswipes oncoming car on Interstate-80, leads UHP on 3 mile chase

TOOELE COUNTY, UTAH (Gephardt Daily) A wrong-way driver suspected of DUI was taken into custody Saturday afternoon after sideswiping at least one oncoming car and leading troopers on a miles-long chase.

According the the Utah Highway Patrol, calls about a driver heading east in the westbound lanes of I-80 began coming in around 4 o’clock.

At that time, the driver was about 45 miles west of West Wendover, heading toward Salt Lake City.

The UHP tells Gephardt Daily that after sideswiping an oncoming vehicle the driver sped off, leading troopers on a three mile chase before stopping and being taken into custody without further incident.

The driver is facing charges of DUI and reckless driving.

There were no reports of injuries.
