Warrant Scam

Its been around for years; the warrant scam. People continue to fall for it because of pushy crooks and the sense of urgency to resolve the matter.

Its pretty simple; the scammer tells you a warrant is out for your arrest and unless you pay up immediately you could face jail time.

“They said something like fraudulent credit card charges,” Utah resident Karen VanCamp tells KSL-TV. She had no idea it was a scam or that she was in any kind of trouble with the law.

The crooks pose as legal counselors for local court systems and it’s a scam we’ve heard about all over the U.S.

The crooks use stern voices and tell the victim they have to act immediately or could be arrested.

But it’s a scam, one that cops all over the country continue to hear about. “We do not call people to tell them we’re coming to arrest them, we do not go out to your house to demand money for a civil action, says Del Schlosser with the Iron County Sheriff’s Office in Utah.

Schlosser says if there was a legitimate warrant you wouldn’t be getting a warning, instead a ride to jail.

If you do get a call like this and you’re still worried, call your local court system, don’t ever hand over payment.
