Aug. 25 (UPI) — A swarm of bees forced a highway rest stop in Nevada to close for the second time in three months.
The state Department of Transportation shut down the Southern Nevada Visitors Center along U.S. Route 95 after maintenance workers discovered hundreds of bees swarming around water faucets, toilets and other facilities at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
“NDOT crews are working diligently to quickly resolve this issue,” agency spokesman Tony Illia told the Las Vegas Sun. “It’s important to make this rest area safe and accessible once again for motorists.”
The rest stop was forced to close for the same reason in June and the department believes the bees are drawn to the facility’s water supplies, KTNV reported.
The transportation department is consulting with bee experts to seek a more permanent solution to the issue and hope to reopen the stop within a few weeks.
