May 31 (UPI) — A Texas hunter says he caught a massive 13-pound bullfrog, and while experts said his photos are real, they are a bit misleading.
The South Texas Hunting Association posted photos to its Facebook page that were provided by a hunter named Markcuz Rangel.
Rangel said the frog in the photos was caught in a pond on a Batesville-area ranch and weighed in at a staggering 13 pounds.
Many commenters called the authenticity of the photos into question, but Steve Lightfoot, spokesman for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, said the pictures appear to be genuine, if somewhat misleading.
“It’s not as bigly as it appears,” Lightfoot told the Houston Chonicle. “[It’s an] optical illusion created by extending [the] frog toward the camera — similar to what you see with fishermen holding up fish to make them appear larger. Still a big bullfrog, though.”
