Fatal accident blocks northbound I-15 near Orem

OREM, Utah, Aug. 28, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A crash Monday on Interstate 15 near Orem killed one man and blocked four lanes of northbound traffic for multiple hours.

The Utah Department of Transportation confirmed that a dump truck driver, Allen C. Cox, 76, has died. He was from Provo.

The accident happened at about 10:30 a.m. near milepost 273, between Orem and Lindon, Sgt. Todd Royce, Utah Highway Patrol, told Gephardt Daily.

“His front steering tire went out, and he went from right to left, then back right,” Royce said. “He struck the concrete wall and a structure” the base of an overpass.

“He was dead on the scene.”

Debris from the dump truck was thrown into the southbound lane, and was struck by a car, Royce said. The car was damaged but no one was seriously injured.

The surrounding section of I-15 was expected to be closed for hours. As of mid afternoon, UDOT was saying three lanes were open and one remained closed.
