SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – September 15, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Victims of the deadliest floods in Utah history will be honored across the state beginning at sunset on Thursday evening. Governor Gary Herbert has authorized the lowering of all U.S. and State of Utah flags to half-staff at state facilities from Thursday evening until sunset on Friday, September 18.

The governor’s actions come in response to two tragic incidents in Hildale, Utah where 12 people died and in Zion National Park where seven lives were claimed in flash floods that hit with little warning on Monday afternoon. Crews are still searching for another victim of the Hildale floods, a six-year-old boy.

Governor Herbert said he joins with other Utahns in mourning the 19 lives lost.  “Jeanette and I send our thoughts and prayers to the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones. I thank the first responders, volunteers and other officials involved in the recovery effort.”
