GARFIELD COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 7, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The  61-year-old staff member fatally assaulted Tuesday at a youth rehabilitation center has been identified as Jimmy Woolsey.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Woolsey, a part of the Turn-About Ranch’s residential staff, was the man who died from injuries allegedly inflicted by a student at the facility, which is near Escalante.

A female staff member also was assaulted. Her name has not been released.

The assaults occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

“A youth witness to the attack (on the male) ran to a nearby building for help,” the news release said. “A female staff member responded and confronted the suspect, preventing him from entering the building, and protecting the occupants. She was assaulted and injured during the confrontation.”

The suspect then gained access to a staff member’s vehicle and headed toward Escalante.

“The stolen vehicle information was given to the two deputies who were en route responding to the scene,” the news release continues.

“The vehicle passed the deputies at a high rate of speed and a chase in Escalante ensued. They pursued the suspect and used a pit maneuver which resulted in the suspect vehicle crashing.”

The suspect was then taken into custody.

The female staff member was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, no information about his identity will be released.
