Domestic kidnapping call leads to SWAT standoff, arrest in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Valley City man has been charged with multiple counts of domestic violence after a SWAT standoff at a home at 1843 West Parkway Boulevard.

Officers were called to the residence around 5:15 p.m. by a woman who said she had been locked out of the home after a heated argument with her boyfriend. She said her young son was being held inside.

After several attempts to contact the boyfriend police called in the SWAT team which surrounded the residence.

An hour later police made contact with someone inside the home. Minutes later the 5-year-old son walked outside, followed by a 15-year-old girl, and then the suspect, identified by police as Troy Archuleta,age 26.

Police said a second adult, described as a male in his 40s, remained inside the apartment before finally surrendering to police. He was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing and released.

Investigators have yet to decide if they’ll pursue kidnapping charges against Archuleta.

Meanwhile, he has been charged with one count of aggravated domestic assault, one count of criminal mischief involving domestic violence and 2 counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child.
