GRANTSVILLE, Utah, March 5, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — One person died in a fire at the Willow Creek apartment complex here Saturday night. When firefighters arrived on scene, one unit was fully engulfed in flames and smoke was billowing from vents near the roof.

Fire crews were called shortly before 10 p.m. to the fire in a four-plex at 225 Apple St.

Grantsville City Police Officer Alison Peterson said fire crews from Grantsville and “all over Tooele County” responded. The fire was extinguished, and firefighters were checking for any remaining hot spots at 11 p.m.

Peterson said there was one fatality in the fire, and no other injuries. Police were not releasing any identifying information about the individual who died.

Peterson said it’s always difficult when there’s a fatality. Grantsville is a “close-knit” community, she said, and people generally know everyone in the area.

She told Gephardt Daily that whenever there’s a fire, “the most important thing is the safety of everyone in the surrounding area. We have to evacuate quickly and make sure everyone is safe.”

The fire is being investigated by the police and the fire department, Peterson said, although only the police spoke to the media Saturday night.

Gephardt Daily will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
