SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Jackie Biskupski was sworn in as Salt Lake City mayor at the City and County Building Monday. Biskupski took the oath of office around noon.

The mayor re-elected City Council member Charlie Luke, and two council members, Andrew Johnston and Derek Kitchen, were also sworn into office at the ceremony.

Biskupski, Salt Lake City’s first openly gay mayor, is a former member of the Utah House of Representatives, representing the 30th District in Salt Lake County from 1999 to 2011. Following that, she worked in the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office as an administrator.

Biskupski was elected to the office of Salt Lake City mayor on November 17, 2015, defeating two-term incumbent Ralph Becker with 51.55 percent of the vote.
