DENVER, Dec. 16 (UPI) — A snowstorm dropped more than seven inches of snow in Denver, canceling plane flights and school classes, and leading to the death of one man.

The weather service at Denver International Airport reported a record-breaking 7.7 inches of snow Tuesday with gusting winds and temperatures in the low teens. Areas near Boulder reported 12 inches of snow.

About 500 flights airport flights were cancelled and flight delays of more than three hours were reported. Icy roads made commuting hazardous, and though the snowstorm diminished through Tuesday evening, low temperatures were expected to remain.

Police reported finding the body of an unidentified man, under snow in a parking lot in the Denver suburb of Sheridan.

“The weather played a significant role in his death,” Sheridan Police Cmdr. Sam Realmuto said.

The Colorado Department of Transportation said 539 snowplows were clearing roads throughout the state. The storm was expected to move to Colorado’s eastern plains with sunshine and cold temperatures predicted in the Denver area for Wednesday.
