WENDOVER, UTAH — MAY 5, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A three-year-old girl was accidentally hit and killed at 250 S. 8th St in Wendover last night just as a family gathering was winding up.

Tooele County Sheriff Paul Wimmer said the victim, who has been identified as Vanessa Gomez, had been standing next to the Tahoe getting ready to be loaded into another vehicle. “The family gathering had just ended and everyone was leaving,” he said. “The little girl must have drifted to the front of the Tahoe and the driver did not see her and ran over her as he was pulling away.”

The driver, Jesus Gonzalez, 26, is not a relative of the little girl but was at the party with other family members. “It happened so fast, and the driver was just barely leaving with a car full of friends and family when the girl was struck,” said Wimmer.

Wimmer said there were several people there that witnessed the incident and it was very traumatic for the family. “Despite CPR efforts from others at the home, the girl died before emergency crews could take her to a hospital,” he said.

The initial investigation shows the driver was not impaired and Wimmer said it is unlikely the driver will be cited.
