ATLANTA, May 8 (UPI) — A small plane crashed on busy Interstate 285 Friday morning, killing four aboard and stopping traffic for miles, authorities said.

The plane, a single-engine Piper PA-32,crashed onto the Atlanta highway about 10 a.m. and burst into flames. The four people on board the aircraft died. It was not clear whether anyone on the ground was hurt, but authorities said there were “a lot of close calls.”

Firefighters extinguished the flames, but little was left of the wreckage. Traffic in both directions was shut down.

The aircraft reportedly left DeKalb Peachtree Airport.
