Elizabeth’s motherhood was announced by her father, Ed Smart, as he attended the Rexberg, Idaho screening of  “The Abolitionist,” a new documentary about child sex trafficking.
Smart was talking about hopeful survivors of the child sex trade, comparing their triumphs to that of Elizabeth’s, who managed to reclaim her life despite a nine month long kidnapping ordeal at the hands of Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee.
“Elizabeth is great,” Smart said. “She just had a baby girl named Chloe about three months ago. We want all those people that have been victimized out there to be survivors. We want them to find their dreams and to find new life that helps them become the best and the most they can be.”
After her 2002 kidnapping Elizabeth Smart managed to pursue her dreams. She graduated from high school, attended Brigham Young University, where she studied music, and served an LDS mission in Paris, France.
It was in Paris where Elizabeth met her husband, fellow missionary and Scotsman, Matthew Gilmour.
The couple became engaged in January, 2012 and married in Hawaii just one month later.
Elizabeth Smart currently works as a child advocate, speaking across the country as a lobbyist for child abduction legislation.
She also works for her own organization The Elizabeth Smart Foundation.
