MURRAY, UTAH – June 15, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) Seven-year-old Wesslee Berger doesn’t like the way police have been portrayed in the public so he is on a mission to try to change that.

The young boy’s father, Travis Berger, of Utah County, said that Wesslee wanted to meet some troopers and thank them for what they do. “He has taken on a personal goal to meet as many officers as he could and shake their hands,” said Berger.

Travis decided to contact the Utah Highway Patrol and see about arranging for his son to meet their officers. UHP decided to do something a little special for the young boy and created an event for him to come and meet several officers and get to know them a little.

According to UHP, several officers as well as the S.E.R.T. MRAP vehicle, U.H.P. Motorcycle squad and even a K-6 team got together on Saturday morning at the Murray UHP office to meet Wesslee and his family.

Sgt. Larry Mower, Trooper Derrick Gallegos and his K-9 Apollo, Sgt. Wyatt Weber, and Lt. Jeff Nigbur all got a chance to spend some time with a boy trying to change the way people think about them.

When Sgt. Mower asked Wesslee why he was doing this and he said, “Because you guys were being treated bad.”

Wesslee’s parents, Valerie and Travis along with Wesslee’s sister Harley were all at the event. Wesslee was  presented with UHP patches, a Motor Squad pin, and a campaign hat. Sgt. Weber also gave him a S.E.R.T. patch and a Unified Police officer gave Wesslee one of their patches as well.

A very positive experience for members of the community and troopers.

  1. Cute but the boy is out of his element. His father would have done good by explaining posse comitatus to the boy.
