FBI Probes String of Murders, Disappearances in Ohio Town
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio, June 25 (UPI) — FBI investigators have stepped in to assist local authorities after four women were found dead and two others have gone missing in the small Ohio town of Chillicothe.
Local law enforcement said they are considering all possibilities in the string of deaths and disappearances in the past 13 months. Two of the dead — Timberly Claytor, 38, and Tiffany Sayre, 26, — were found within three weeks of each other and have been classified as homicides.
“At this point, there’s no smoking gun that says, ‘Hey, we’ve got a serial killer on the loose,’ ” Ross County Prosecutor Matt Schmidt said. “We have missing people and we have a homicide.”
“There are certainly people talking in the community and people that are upset and understandably concerned about that,” he added. “When there are those concerns, we don’t rule that out. We have to keep an open mind to the possibilities, but the evidence is going to dictate where we go with the investigation.”
The trend began unfolding in May 2014, when Tameka Lynch, 30, was found by a kayaker. Since then, all of the other women have been found dead in waterways, including Shasta Himelrick, whose body was discovered Jan. 2. Charlotte Trego and Wanda Lemons are listed as missing.
Investigators said all of the women share a social circle and are connected through drug use and possible prostitution in the town of 21,000, located about an hour outside Columbus.
