Standoff with Jail Escapee in Clearfield Ends Peacefully

CLEARFIELD, UTAH – July 17, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A man who police say walked away from the Davis County Jail then barricaded himself inside a Clearfield home for nearly seven hours has surrendered peacefully.

According to Clearfield Police, the standoff ensued after Davis County put an attempt to locate out for a jail walk away for the South Davis County area around 9 a.m. Centerville Police was asked to check at relative’s address at approximately 1100 N. 700 W.

Through interviews in the immediate location and the home owner, it was determined that the suspect did have access to a weapon.

A felony fugitive warrant was obtained by Davis County Jail and search warrant obtained by Centerville Police.

Due to the hazardous situation Davis County SWAT was called out to assist. Officers from Centerville, Bountiful and Layton also assisted.

Approximately eight nearby residences had to be evacuated during the standoff.
