WASHINGTON CITY, Utah, Feb. 17, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A car burglar in Washington City ended his own crime spree after leaving the keys to his car in a victim’s vehicle.
According to a Washington City Police probable cause statement, dispatchers received a call Saturday of a vehicle burglary. The owner indicated his personal items had been stolen, and he found an unfamiliar set of keys on his seat.
The keys had a panic button so the officer went around pressing it until he it set off the alarm on a gray Ford Focus parked a couple of blocks from the burglary. The Focus was registered to William Michael Leavitt, 24, from St. George. A warrant to search Leavitt’s vehicle was obtained and officers found several stolen items belonging to victims in the same vicinity.
Leavitt was already in custody being questioned by the St. George Police in a home burglary in St. George the day before.
Leavitt was taken to the Washington County Jail and faces three felony charges including unlawful possession of another’s financial card and identifying documents, and 12 misdemeanor counts of burglary of a vehicle, theft, possession of spice and drug paraphernalia.
I have been talking with KSL, STG News, and other various Utah news sites which posted my article, people calling me dumb, a thief, etc… I swear upon everything I believe in I did not do this. My vehicle was stolen, someone used it to rob some vehicles, than left my car keys in one of the vehicles they stole from, now everyone not only thinks I am a thief, but also think I am retarted. Do not believe everything you read. I love helping others, volunteering at the homeless shelter, doing my best to be a good person, and this has happened. I don’t care about people’s opinions that do not know me, but those of you who do know me, please understand I did no such thing. What I did do is serve time in jail for something I did not do, I still have not been to court for this, and to all the Media sites posting negative stuff about me I forgive you 100%
I would really appreciate it if you would take down that article about me that is far from the truth. I have education from Dixie State University, I work hard daily, I help my parents which both have medical issues, I was born and raised LDS, I love doing selfless service, I am no criminal. Imagine yourself being accused of a crime you did not commit, than having someone like yourself writing terrible things about you on the news for the whole world to see. Innocent people are imprisoned every single day.
