SPANISH FORK, Utah, April 24, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol has identified the man killed Saturday morning after the pickup truck he was riding in was hit by a tractor-trailer that was run off the road by a speeding motorist.

UHP said 21-year-old Irineo Hernandez Ambriz, of Provo, died in the accident that happened just before 4 a.m., on southbound I-15 in Spanish Fork.

A semi was traveling south and two other vehicles, a white passenger car and a black pickup, attempted to pass the semi at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the white car swerved into the path of the semi, forcing the semi driver off the road to the right, where he hit the guardrail. The driver of the semi swerved back onto the freeway, where he collided with the pickup.

Ambriz was fatally injured and died at the scene. The drivers of the semi and the pickup were both transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the white car did not stop, and UHP said it is possible he was not aware he had caused an accident. The driver of that car has not been located.
