IRON COUNTY, Utah, April 28, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A crash on I-15 south of Beaver that closed the interstate in both directions is now cleared, according to officials.
A tweet from the Utah Department of Transportation at approximately 2 p.m. said the crash at milepost 100, eight miles south of Beaver, had closed the freeway southbound, and the northbound left lane was also closed. At 2:40 p.m., UDOT updated that both northbound and southbound I-15 was closed.
By 4:20 p.m., all lanes were back open.
Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Todd Royce said at approximately 1:30 p.m., a heavy storm passed through the area, laying down a heavy layer of hail and slush.
A semi truck headed south lost control and jackknifed across the southbound lanes. Another semi hit its brakes, and the semi behind that one ran into the back of that semi and across the median into the northbound lanes. One more semi lost control and jackknifed as well. A black passenger car was involved with these trucks and sustained damage.
Traffic diverted off the north and southbound off-ramps then back onto the freeway at mile marker 100. The freeway was shut down for approximately two hours.
The only injuries sustained were to the driver of the semi that ran into the back of the other semi. Two subjects that were in the black passenger car were also transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
There were at least four other crashes in this immediate area during the same time frame.
