HERRIMAN, Utah, May 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A teenager who police say used a sword to stab his best friend “all the way through” the abdomen last Saturday was charged Thursday with aggravated assault.
The suspected attacker and the victim, both 17-year-old boys, were at a sleepover at the victim’s house early Saturday morning when the stabbing took place. Unified Police officers responded just after 6 a.m. to the residence, near 7000 West and Long Ridge Drive. The victim’s mother made the 911 call.
Lt. Lex Bell, of the Unified Police Department, said the suspect also attacked the victim’s father, but was subdued by a responding police officer and by fire officials who broke protocol, entering a residence that had not been cleared, risking their safety to save the officer under attack. Bell said a Taser used on the suspect had little effect.
The victim was stabbed “all the way through” with a sword from his own collection, Bell said. The victim in critical condition when he was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital. He was quickly stabilized, and is expected to recover. The victim’s family has asked for privacy, and does not plan to release further details.
The suspect also was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Since both teens are minors, it is unlikely their names will be released.
Bell said the suspect has no criminal record, and has been booked into juvenile detention. It is possible alcohol was a factor in the incident, he added.
Alcohol? Alcohol does not generally give anyone the super human strength demonstrated by the fact it took three adults to restrain this boy. What does produce that kind of strength along with overwhelming cravings for alcohol plus put of character violence is an antidepressant.
