MIDVALE, Utah, Aug. 7, 2016, (Gephardt Daily) — Investigators are trying to determine the origin of a fire that caused an estimated $5,000 in damage to the outside of an area hotel Sunday.
Firefighters from Unified Fire Authority were first called to the La Quinta Inn, 7231 S. Catalpa St., in Midvale, around 4 p.m.
When they arrived they found a fire burning in a garden bed near the hotel’s exterior.
The fire – which is believed to have started in a pile of wood chips – was quickly knocked down.
There were no reports of injuries.
Investigators theorize a discarded cigarette may have started the fire but say the official cause may never be determined.
