SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 21, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Don Ipson to serve as state senator in Senate District 29 and Walter Brooks as state representative in House District 75.
The senate vacancy was created by the resignation of Sen. Steve Urquhart on Sept. 9, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
“I am confident that as a state representative, Walt Brooks will serve our state and his district with diligence and integrity,” Herbert said in the prepared statement. “I look forward to working with him in this new role.”
Brooks is currently the president of Utah-based RxTrax, a company that specializes in tracking deliveries for the pharmacy industry. He holds a degree in business administration from Dixie State University.
Ipson is the chairman, president and CEO of DATS Trucking, which serves the western states, including Utah. Prior to his appointment to the Senate, he served on the Infrastructure and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee, as house chair of the Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Interim Committee and as chair of the Political Subdivisions Committee.
“Don is a good friend and a hard worker,” Herbert said. “His depth of knowledge of both policy and business will be of great value as he continues to serve the people of our state in this new capacity.”
Both Ipson and Brooks will serve the remainder of the current legislative term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2016.
